This is a project that Im working on for a friend right now.
Tempo does make a wrinkle black. Also, I found that the Pep Boys auto
parts store chain stocks Plasticote brand black wrinkle paint. Either
paint works very well. I also have found that some hardware stores stock
wrinkle paint. You can follow the directions on the can : apply one good
coat, wait 10 min apply second, wait another 10 min & apply third. This
give a very wrinkly texture which is almost a crackle. If your going to
do any radio items apply first coat, wait 4 min, apply second, no third.
If you do this do it in about 80 deg temperatures, this works the best,
as it will wrinkle to a finer smoother wrinkle wich best matches original
Military wrinkle. Applying heat speeds it up & helps to make the wrinkle
a little bit more uniform. I always apply heat. A gas oven works best set
to the lowest heat setting. I tried it in an electric oven but it really
stank bad so I wouldn't recommend that. Leaving the part out in the sun
works very well also. The wrinke will also occur w/o heat but it will
take longer. After it has dried & set for about 2-3 days you can spray
you O.D. over it if you wish. If you spray the color on too soon, or too
heavy it can smooth out your wrinkle job! I use the Aervoe brand #997A
spray can semi gloss O.D. as the topcoat. Try this on a test piece, of
course, to try your hand at it. Make sure your coats are applied evenly
or it will wrinkle differently over the surface.
Hope I haven't been too windy here. Hope this helps all
