dave,
there are three different engines, ld-465, ldt-465, and lds-465.
while there are lots of small changes, most made after 1970 are
about the same (newer style heads, better head gaskets, etc.)
ld and ldt are the same except for the turbo, and you would have
to set up the pump for turbo or not. the pump will say ldt or ld
but they seem to be the same, you just have to be able to make
the fuel rate adjustments yourself. if you make adjustments to
the pump be SURE you know what you are doing or you WILL BLOW-UP
the engine !!!the lds engine comes in the 5 ton and has oil cooling
passages in the pistons and an oil pump on the timing cover for power
steering (although some of us have put power steering on our 2.5's)
the best place to start is to connect a low pressure gauge (like a fuel
pump testing gauge, 0-15 lb) on the intake manifold. there is a 1/8"
plug just for this ! at 2450 rpm and full load full throttle you should
have 9 lb of pressure. any more WILL damage the engine ! less and you
will not have the power you should have.
i have lots of experience getting the most power safely from these
engines and if i can be of help to anyone feel free to e-mail or call
