However, I believe it should be noted that while there are modern 100,000 lb trucks rolling down the interstates at 70 (+), that may not be so smart or safe either. You have to be able to stop and you have to be able to maneuver. The modern semi truck is designed to travel at higher speeds. Our precious old MVs do not have the brakes or suspension designed for high speed. They were designed to carry a heavy load off-road, not to run 80 mph. As the speed increases, the forces acting upon the vehicle rise much more rapidly. Even if you have the power to push 70 mph, without major redesign of the suspension, steering, and brakes, I don't think you will be safe. And if you do that, you won't have a capable off-road vehicle.
