Judging from the responses to this, my case appears to be somewhat common. The
units come with no instructions on installation. The installation is easy to
understand though.

I am told that there are 'good' ones and 'bad' ones, but no one can tell me how
to identify the two different types.

Their reliability is very reminisent of the 74-76 US cars with electronic
ignition. I switched my car back to points then too and was much happier...
