REMEMBER with this type of wheel, the condition of the tire (actually the bead)
is partially preventing the split ring from opening and thereby releasing.
Of course Combat rims are another thing altogether.
If you want to see what forces are involved, observe what happens when you
cannot get the tire off of the rim after the ring is remove. I had one the
other month that refused to come off while being broken down on my Bear truck
tire machine. I had to inflate the tire (sloooowly) with the ring off and the
tire locked onto the machine facing up. When it finally popped at about 30 psi,
it took all the rust between the flap and the rim and launched it 20' into the
air, bounced it off of the ceiling and dropped it all over my sweating body.
Shower time...
I was inflating it from below the rim and have seen this before. To me it is
worse than inflating a tire as you know it will pop violently...
