[MV] Another Canvas Question

As far as the safety info stenciled on the rear, it was an original
marking, but not on all jeeps. Most of what I have seen show the "max
speed XX mph" to be in the lower rear of the top but not in any specific
location (left or right side or in the center). "caution left hand drive
seems to always be in the upper right side of the rear of the canvas.
Once again I have drawn my conclusions from the hundreds of original
pictures in books and on the web and an older French paperback book (all
writing in French) that specifically outlines the many types of markings
that were on military vehicles during WWII. It included stenciling on
canvas. I will try to get you the name of it. It is very informative and
has lots of original pictures of jeeps to illustrate the types markings.
I don't own a copy and it is very hard to come by because I think it is
currently out of print. I believe "caution left hand drive" was
stenciled on when the jeeps arrived in England. If your jeep is being
restored to be in another theatre of war, it probably did not have that
marking on it. Your best bet is to find an original photo with markings
that interest you and just copy it. I am probably going to put both of
the above safety slogans on my Command Car since the top is so large. If
you plan to drive your jeep on the roads, I think that those markings
will still make other drivers cautious even though they don't mean much
here!
