[MV] M38A1 fender repairs

Both fenders on my M38A1 have the rounded front portion crushed beyond
repair, but the interior fender portion is alright. I have located two used
fenders that have just the opposite problem; the outside portion of the
fenders are fine, and dent free, but some clown cut big holes in the
interior portion of both fenders. I have no idea why.

I assume the inner and outer sections of the fenders are joined with spot
welds. My questions:

Were these early fenders made consistently enough for me to expect to be
able to separate the sections and rebuild into two good fenders?

Has anyone done this that might have some tips?
