Anyone know how much one should tighten the huge nuts that hold the wheel
hub assemblies onto the axle tubes of an M715? The technique I used was to
tighten the nuts until I got a fair amount of rolling resistance from the
wheel bearings, then back the nuts off 1/8th (more or less) of a turn. I'm
not sure if this is correct, so I'm looking for something more quantifiable
than this. I recently read that different vehicles will require different
levels of tightness on these nuts, and I'm hoping to avoid goonin' up my
wheel bearings or the hubs and axle tubes. With weight on the wheels--or
off, I suppose--I can feel a very slight clunking when I grab the top of the
wheel rock it in and out of the wheel well.
Any solid info (preferably a quote from the manual) or advise/personal
experience is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
