[MV] Re: the basics of the situation Was: Scud, et al....

Hi list:
As to why Aurthur hasn't jumped in, perhaps he realizes how seminal this is to
our very purposes. let's reduce it to basics, constitutional considerations
aside for a moment.
A SCUD, as Joe Baker informed us, is a tactical theater weapon...little
different from a 105 howitzer or any other ballistic weapons. perhaps an
argument can be made for restricting strategic weapons of mass destruction on
humanitarian grounds alone,
but if you extend this to tactical weapons as well, when they come for your
demilled anti-tank gun that you cherish, on the same grounds as they use to
take the Scud, what will you say then?
Someone voiced that age old quip about disagreeing but defending the right to
speak...but the problem is quickly becoming "what will we use in this
defense?" perhaps harsh language or sticks....watch what happens soon in
Australia where even sporting weapons are being taken now, and you'll have
your answer.
As owners of mil vehicles, we carry on proud traditions that few ordinary
citizens understand. We cannot expect them to understand the motivations for
owning some of these things..to them, even an M37 is a weapon of sorts. On the
same level as "dangerous looking" "assault weapons" et al, our trucks will be
targeted if we allow this to endure.
Now for the absurdity of the "need to own concept"...
While I will not engage in a debate about the definition or intended meaning
of a "well-regulated militia", as this is not the proper forum for it, I WILL
insist that basic rights to own ANYTHING whatsoever DOES NOT STEM from the
government, but is inherent in our existence. Deny that and lose the right
to own your vehicles, your land, your other rights. This fact is why the
government began selling military surplus to start with. Somewhere along the
line, the right turned into a privelege, or a government granted thing...it
just ain't so! Above all else in the law we hold ourselves to, is the
principle that ALL the powers that have not been delegated to the government
are reserved by the people. That's us! This is not clear enough for anyone??
I opt NOT to give my government the power to take my things away, without due
process, be they guns, trucks, or whatever...how about you?
Many of us shed blood and made huge sacrifices to insure that this never
changed...what will we do now..sit idly, in fear of being branded "radicals"
while the real radicals are busy vacationing in Washington and vacuuming up
what's left of our rights? Perhaps it is always a very small component which
understands these things and takes them to heart. The "radicals" at Concord
understood them..so did the "radicals" at Normandy, at the Chosin Resevoir, at
Hue, and in the deserts of the mid-east. What has happened to the rest of us??
If anyone denies these things, they have not a single clue what military
vehicle ownership is all about...nor the military in general for that matter.
With silent respect for those who made the sacrifice, and a tear for those who
squander it
Jack
