Ben
The five tons breakdown like so:
M39: 602ci Continental gas w/ nonoverdrive 5spd
M39A1: 673T Mack diesel w/ 5spd overdrive
M39A2: LDS-465 turbo multifuel w/ nonoverdrive 5spd
M809: NHC-250 Cummings w/ 5spd overdrive
All of the above have air over hydraulic brakes and an over running sprag for
front axel drive. The M809 series also have a nicer Ross power steering system
though many of the older trucks were upgraded.
M939: NHC-250 ( w/thermostatically controlled colling fan) and an Allison
automatic, full air brakes(wedge type),Ross power steering and an air
controlled front axel. The transfer is over driven in high range.
M939A1: same as M939 but super singles
M939A2: same as M939A1 but it uses the new generation Cummings the model
escapes me.
Good luck getting 9mpg out of a 5 ton van. The super single conversion is a
'bolt on'. It will help road speed and fuel economy. It's just a matter of
money about $1800 for wheels and tires.
I have a M931 (tractor) for sale for $22,500
