[MV] Unknown Seals

I have been replacing the entire brake system in my 1943 Federal 2 & 1/2
ton truck (model 2G; 4x2). But I'm stuck. I need to replace the front
wheel grease seals which are made of felt. Two problems: no one seems
to know anything about these particular seals. Second, I'm not sure how
to get these off the spindle. I don't want to bother them if I can't
find replacements. On the other hand, I can't see clearly what I need
unless I disassemble these. My manual simply says that the felt is
followed by two steel washers. There is a steel washer (about 3 & 1/2
inches in diameter) located between the felt seal and the inner wheel
bearing. But the bearing has worn into the steel washer so that the
washer appears to be stuck to, or as a piece of, the spindle. No one
with a civilian model of Federal, with whom I have talked, seems to know
about these seals either. The Reverse Elliott axle number is as
follows: SAE 7040 8RCX 3100 L532. In an old truck repair book
(Audel's), there is a picture of a Brockway truck axle (reverse elliott)
that depicts a felt seal used. Anybody got ANY clues at all?
