Mick,
The wire from the horn button feeds down the center of the steering
shaft, through a hole and solders to a bras sleeve that is insulated
from the steering shaft. You can try soldering through the brush hole
but I advise against it. Remove the steering gear, shaft and tube as a
unit, then remove the tube and you can see what you're doing. Besides,
you'll have a chance to restore and paint erery thing while it's out.

To aid in pulling the steering wheel, I made an 4" round adapter plate
out of 3/8" steel , then cut a slot in it just big enough to slip over
the steering column and up against the steering wheel. Hook a gear
puller on the plate and bear down on the steering shaft and the wheel
should pop off.
Good Luck,
Buzz
