After having been involved in antique vehicles (30 or so years) in the =
last of years all of a sudden I have started having problems with =
engines which seem to indicate that the engines are running much much =
hotter, resulting in failures of exhaust manifolds and now exhaust =
valves. I have noticed this problem on both of my CMPs which run the =
Chevy 216 stove bolt six engine. Both of these had exhaust manifold =
failures with in a years time. On both engines the manifolds have =
warped and eventually broken. I suspect that this is a heat related =
problem. Similarly I have had exhaust manifold failures on several =
newer cars. I suspect that the new cleaner burning gas is actually =
burning hotter (this fuel is all that is available in our area). I have =
also notice that the warm up time for any of the trucks or regular cars =
is much shorter than in the past. The cooling systems on both of these =
trucks are very clean the lighter rig having 180 degree thermostat and =
the larger a 160 degree both thermostats have been checked on the stove =
for operating temperatures and full opening.
To add to the fun I recently burned two exhaust the valves on the larger =
of my CMPs, yes I have been using the lead additive. Truck in question =
is a Canadian Military Pattern Radio Truck road weight 11,000 lbs. so =
yes that little 216 cubic inch engine is working hard.
Is anybody else having these types of problems?
