[MV] 1942 MB-T Questions

I am just starting the restoration of my 1942 Willys MB-T Trailer to go
with my 1942 Willys MB. The trailer is in pretty rough shape. My first
question is about having a tailgate cut in them. My does have a tailgate
and I have been told by some people that this could have been done by the
military. My other question is in reference to the bottom of the trailer
which is about half gone in mine. Would I be better off to just replace
the bottom with a flat piece of sheet metal? Any help and suggestions will
be greatly appreciated.
