[MV] ID's of engines

Hi List:
Can anyone ID these engines and what these engines go
in? Data as follows:
2 Crates marked US ARMY GAPA-500 320 ENGINE
PK-METH. 2A DESICCANT
SERIAL NO. 117605 and SERIAL NO. 117777
Engines are flat heads supposedly for jeeps and manufactured
around 1955 and packed in cosmoline and grease paper etc.
I have bid info in Excel 95 and 97 formats.
