Mike,
My original 1952 M37 had been repainted to the darker color by the
military. It's an old paint job applied over the lighter late WWII color
and if flaking off due to lack of proper prep. I was sure that the lighter
color was the original paint, but local "mil-veh experts" said it was
merely faded dark green. When I restored my 1952 M135 2-1/2 ton
truck, it had been painted blue for Civil Defense use. George Baxter
of Army Jeep Parts, 215-788-6012 advised me that the correct early
M color was a light, lusterless, late WWII color that he had specially
mixed and for sale. The color exactly matches areas of the original
paint (like behind the cap for fording on the dash) that was still on
the M135. This color also matches the light color on my M37 and
if/when I restore it, I will use the light lusterless green.
