I was stationed on Guam from 1977-1980 at NAS Agana. lest anyone have
doubts about the corrosion, a NEW car would show rust through pits in
only a year, if it wasn't Zeibarted as soon as it came on-island. You
could bring a POV to Guam, but all the literature stressed the
undercoating and rust problem.

We even had a common name for the cheap cars sailors would buy on the
island and leave behind...they ran primo, but had more duct tape on
the fenders than metal. We called them "Guam Bombs".

True, a Sherman's hull wouldn't have rusted through, but you could put
gallons of putty in all the pits trying to make the metal smooth.
