[MV] Electrical Box on MB/GPW

I have been curious about the small electrical box I've seen on some WW II
Jeeps. It is located on the passenger's side of the tub. I've only seen it
in about 20% of the restored MVs I have seen.

I am guessing this had something to do with the radios.

Was this standard or an option for WW II Jeeps? Should a 1945MB have one?
What was it used for?
