I'm not sure if any of you have struggled through putting shock absorbers on
your MB or GPW but I did until I talked to an old timer. He said he had a
special tool. I thought he was going to show me a $65 specialized mechanics
tool. Instead he opened up a drawer and brought out a 1" diameter piece of
heavy wall PVC pipe with 2 V notches in it. He said to put it on the washer
and put a C clamp on it and tighten down until you can see the hole in the
shaft and drop in the cotter pin. Very cheap and pretty clever.
