I'm a bit confused. A military unit (I forget whether they were Army,
Marine or National Guard) had some HMMWV-based communications sets on
display at a recent gun show. While I was talking to the guys who
brought the trucks, one of them claimed that surplus HMMWV's could be
bought intact by civilians. I disbelieved his claim, because I've
heard all of the ranting on this list (I probably even did some of the
ranting) about the &$^@%% demil process for HMMWVs. But today when I
went out to buy a sacrificial pine tree for the holiday season, the
young lady who ran the cash register turned out to be a light wheeled
vehicle mechanic in the Army, and she also claimed that surplus HMMWVs
were now being sold intact to the public. Has policy changed in the
last year or two, or were both of these folks mistaken?
P.S. On an unrelated note, I'm kicking myself for not trying to get
the tree-lady's phone number. :-)
