Many thanks to everyone who replied - Unfortunately it sounds like this
vehicle is not an Armadillo. I'm not sure what it may be - assuming it's
still there - the chap I spoke to clearly recalls it having steel armour,
and not plywood.
Thanks again though - at least I now know what an Armadillo is... when it's
not an animal !!

Yes, a double skin wooden pillbox filled with pebbles on a 4x2 Bedford
or Fordson chassis, some 660 made in 1940 to various specs.
