[MV] M38A1 hood grill weld or webbing

Has anyone figured out an easy way to spread the split end rivets to
hold new webbing on top of grill? Looks easy until you try it. thought
of welding a "v" shaped piece to a pliers (sort of reverse hog ring
pliers) but figured this was going about things the hard way. Don't want
to reinvent the wheel, nor do I want to take the grill out and turn it
upside down. HELP and thanks. Richard
