My plan is to narrow the 9" and have flanges welded on that are the same
bolt pattern as the spindle on the front of the '76 Blazer. This way, I can
bolt on the spindle and caliper bracket, then install the hub and caliper
just like on the front. I will have to measure for custom axleshafts, and I
will be using the full time gear (unless I find a used manual hub set). The
rear calipers from a 77-78 Cadillac Seville fit right into the brackets, and
are identical to the front caliper except they contain the parking brake
mechanism. My cables ought to work with some minor mods. I will have to
'gut' the combination/proportioning/metering valve on the frame, and pull
any residual pressure valve that might exist from the master cylinder. I
plan to install an adjustable proportioning valve in the line to the rear to
keep from rear wheel lockup. You really have to know what you are doing when
you modify brake systems!
As for the bolt pattern, it will have to be the Chevy 6 lug. The Ford parts
were $100 more per axle. I didn't know the Chevy studs were only 7/16"
instead of the 1/2" I have now. If they start breaking, I'll know I
shouldn't have been so cheap...
As for the parking brake on my '6, how much would you want for yours? I
haven't even tried to find it at the wrecking yards yet and don't know what
it would be worth.
Your Jeep sounds awesome, and it sounds like you have experienced the pains
I am going through now. I will be relieved to work on the M38 and the CJ-6
-- no modifications here!
I must be sick....I have Jeep disease.....what's the cure ! ? !
