I mention this only in passing, but I'm currently dismantling a T112 Dodge
Carryall, one of the first 4 x 2 ones built for the D.O.D, and yesterday I
noticed that the one coat of original O.D. in the footwell area had been
thrown on in the centre and run down quite noticeably, and had missed the
sides of the firewall bellhousing tunnel entirely. Perhaps our favourite
toys were not quite so well painted as the standard we would like to
'restore' them too, even from the factory ?

I use modern paint bought from Steve Rivers at Dallas Autos (south of
England) for external spraying, but genuine original 1970's time expired
U.S. Army O.D. for chassis and mechanical components and underneath, both
have their good points.

I spent years inspecting and accepting painted bits and pieces for
government stuff, and as long as it was to specification and properly
finished out it went. If I found an item or a batch I really didn't like
the supplier usually just had to sand and refinish.
