Of course, if your vehicle was made out of a sensible metal to start
with, like aircraft-grade Burmalloy, this wouldn't be a problem (sniff)!
Seriously though, protection of the metal has to be taken very seriously,
especially in the gaps and joints. Also, watch out for corrosion if using
self-tapping screws, and don't use them if at all possible.
The standard Land-Rover technique for painting starts with bare, bright
metal and an etch coat. My word but it is tedious. My word but it works!
(Tell your son he doesn't get his Nintendo back until he reaches the
metal... heh heh!)
