I finally got the '53 M38A1 running this past weekend. It was the points
as far as I can tell. The new ones I put on originally didn't work quite
right and looked cheap compared to some newer ones I got from Rapco.
They were properly gapped and didn't work. So I tried this new set of
points and bingo, spark. I put new capacitors in there and a new coil as
well, but I think the old ones were ok before. They tested out ok on the
multimeter but I didn't have the heart to take the distributor out again
and place the old coil and the other new capacitor back in to make sure
it was just the points. I will save them if they ever fail. Thanks to
all for your help. I used all the information sent to me. Thanks again.
