I need some help in finding the proper markings for my 43 GPW. Serial #
117792. If someone has records on what unit this jeep was actually
deployed to I would mark it appropriately, otherwise here's my scheme:
I was in the 2 Battalion, 60th Regiment, 9th Infantry Division during
Vietnam. That same unit arrived in the UK on 27 Nov., 43 under Col.
Commanding Officer Frederick J. de Rohan. The unit was subsequently
deployed to France 4 days after D Day.
I'd like to mark the jeep as if it were Rohan's personal jeep but don't
really know what to use. I have a picture of a jeep from the 9th and
the front bumper shows:
9 60+M-11 - which means 9th Division, 60th Infantry, M Company, vehicle
11. I guess they didn't show the Battalion. On the picture it shows this
number was very sloppily hand painted in white paint.
I was in A Company so I could use 9 60+A-1 (first vehicle). I'm not sure
the CO's would have been marked this way though. Any suggestions about
what the CO's markings might have been?
Given that I can use this same bumper marking, does anyone know what the
hood numbers/markings should be?
Thanks for your help.
