Well said, Mike!
As an immigrant to this country (legally, mind you!), I am very
sensitive to and wary of irrational government control and intervention.
I am a law-abiding, hard working resident (patiently waiting for
citizenship, I too love this country!) who also happens to like guns and
military vehicles. I understand the need for some control and
regulation, as long as it is governed by reason and not bureaucracy and
liberal mindframes.
I see our ownership of military vehicles as a tribute to the spirit of
the fighting men and women who have made this country great. Maybe the
rest of the population is jaded and zonked on Jerry Springer and Oprah,
but when I see our veterans parading proudly, maybe a little slowly and
stiffly but still full of love and respect for this country, I can't
help but feel awe. We are not just owners of old metal, these machines
represent the sacrifice made by many and a tribute to those who gave
all.
Just a couple of weeks ago I was washing my wife's car when I heard a
distinctive drone, and when I looked up, I saw three flights of warbirds
over me, with the Arizona sun glinting off their wings. It was a great
moment, and I am willing to take a stand to protect our rights; it is
after all a government of the people and for the people, and WE should
never let our elected officials forget this.
A long time ago I wrote a story about how I feel about this, it is the
story of an old WWII jeep. You can check it out at the following

Hope you enjoy it!
