i'm in the process of rebuilding a 6v53 for a boat. you can get the
manuals from any detroit diesel shop. the military is the biggest user
of the 6v53 -- over 80,000 engines. the engine is fairly reliable. the
worst thing you can do to them is excessive idling. with the 2 cycle
detroits, the best thing you can do is to run 'em hard.
