[MV] 1-1/2 Ton Chevy Bed Dimensions

A friend of mine, Glenn Camp from Daleville, Alabama was extremely helpful in
my quest for a 12 foot CCKW bed, and a truck to put it on. He has generously
copied some articles relevant to my search, one of which includes the
dimensions for the 1-1/2 ton Chevy Truck (G-506). The article originally
appeared in "Army Motors" and was on page 12, but unfortunately I can't tell
you which issue, as I only have the pages relevant to the truck beds. The
article is "Nit Pickers Guide to World War II Cargo Truck Bodies", by Bryce J.
Sunderlin of Lansing, Michigan. I don't know Mr. Sunderlin, but I have heard
his name mentioned (reverently) quite often about the bigger trucks. Anyway,
he says in the 3rd paragraph, "The most common glitch is this planning is the
short, 9 foot body for the Chevy 1 1/2 ton, 4x4 (G-506) and the short
wheelbase GMC 2 1/2 ton 6x6 (G-508). Both bodies are 108 inches long. But,
the body for the lighter Chevy is only 86 inches wide overall, versus the 88
inch overall width for the GMC. For some unknown reason the sides of the
Chevy body were set in further, being only 70 inches inside, while the GMC
body offers an 80 inch inside width. Don't ask me why this is, it just is."

This should answer the question concerning the dimensions, 86" x 108" with 70"
inside dimension. Thanks to Mr. Sunderlin, and Mr. Camp and a parting of the
vail of forgetfulness that I remembered where I put the copy. Misspelling is
mine.
