G'day all,
Lately I've been making a few reproduction mounting brackets for the
WW2 Hull M4 Compass, as used on jeeps and other wartime MV's such as half-
tracks. The ones I've made are currently all 'type 1' style as shown in
'All American Wonder' Vol. 2 page 212, where one can be seen hanging from a
jeep's windscreen in a 1944 photograph. They are to the correct size and have
a nice weathered rubber part. The small shaft section I have made from
aluminium, as it cannot be seen and is painted OD anyway, as is the
curved-edge bracket fixture part (made from sheet steel). The rubber really
is old and has the ridged outer and string molded through the wall (as
illustrated inside the ball in the 'type 2' mounting, and also used in one of
the civilian mounting versions).
I've just about finished making a few, including one for my 1944 GPW.

I'm wondering what sort of interest there might be in me making some more. I
spend a not-inconsiderable time making them all by hand. An M4 hanging off
the windscreen is a nice piece that others look at. I was thinking of around
20 to 25 USD each, not including postage. Too much? Too little? Am I just
wasting my time? I have only a limited amount of the antique rubber
unfortunately.
Any feedback would be appreciated here :)

Steve.
