[MV] tie rod threading

Just a point of interest about tie rod threading in general. On all of the
military vehicles and many older vehicles I have worked on I have found as
you would expect right and left hand threads so that by turning the tube you
can make an adjustment. What I have also discovered is that trucks with
tie rods that have a bend in them, to clear the drive shaft, is that the
right
and left threads have different thread counts to allow for adjustment other
than a
complete turn of the link. So when trying to adjust the toe-in and a full
turn is too-much or too-little check the thread count per inch on the two
ends. In this way by dropping the tie-rod and turning the two ends
independently you can get the correct toe-in. I used a thread guage to find
out how many threads per inch. Then you can figure out the combination of
turns to get the correct length. Or just use the trial and error method
until you get it.
