Just a note to say thanks to all for making me, as a new list member, feel
welcome.
The responses to my question have been great. I'm sure some have been asked
many times, but no one chided me.
The Normandy thing sounds fun. It would be great for me to be able to take
my step-father, but he's 81 and in poor health. He was with the UDT on
D-Day. I think he landed on Utah beach. His unit was there before the main
landing, destroying obstacles, etc. He saw Mil. Veh's. in the worst
conditions and how they operated. He recently told a story of that day to
me that may place him as the first of the "invaders" to reach the bluffs,
and therefore the continent proper. That was something special, I think. He
speaks of the amphibious vehicles and the other equipment and how it saved
many. The horrors of that day always figure prominently in his tales,
though.
I think he saw it as raw as it can be.
Anyway, sorry to ramble on so, just thought some might be interested in
that info.
Again, thanks to all
Henry
