[MV] ANZAC Day

This Sunday, April 25th is ANZAC Day. It is the day when the Aussies and
Kiwis remember the brave men of the ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand
Army Corps) who fell in battle.

Very few people of my generation (I'm 28, BTW) outside Australia and New
Zealand know much about the sacrifice of the Anzac soldiers, so I
encourage everyone to read about their bravery at places like Gallipolli
and the Somme. The Light Horse's gallant charge at Bersheeba (one of the
last successful uses of cavalry against modern weaponry) made a legend
out of them, but many of these men did not return to their native
Australia. By the end of the war, thousands of ANZAC soldiers had lost
their lives half a world away from home. On Sunday, we remember their
sacrifice.

Americans are proud of their veterans, and they well should be. Were it
not for their blood and their sacrifice, the world would be a different,
much sadder place. But when we pause to reflect and remember those who
gave all for freedom, let's remember the gallant men of Australia and
New Zealand who have stood side by side with the American soldiers in
their darkest moments, freom the desperate struggles in the Pacific
during WWII, to the jungles of Vietnam.

Three cheers to the ANZAC, may they rest in peace.
