<< Sorry for the confusion! I'm only wondering if I should install the
ROPS kit that I own to the early M151 that I own. I
have heard that the performance is terrible when you do this. Words
like rollercoaster have been used. >>
Hello Mike.........thanks for the clarification. There are both good and bad
points to take into account in fitting ROPS to your early M151. I'm sure the
Listers will have additional comments to add, too.
1. The Downside.
Fitting ROPS is quite a task, and (in my opinion) doesn't add any aesthetic
beauty to an already beautiful-looking truck. I think it detracts !
Fitting a ROPS kit will add an extra 200lbs to the weight of the vehicle. A
fair amount of this extra weight will be well above the centre of gravity,
making an already unstable vehicle, even more so. In straight-line driving,
this extra weight keeps the rear end down on the road, but a sudden maneouvre
(swerve/lane switch etc) will add extra forces pushing the vehicle into a
roll.
2. The Upside.
If you do manage to roll your M151, you stand a better chance of walking away
unscathed, or less seriously injured, if you have ROPS fitted. There is no
doubt that the kit was much more effective than hoping the windshield and
hood rails would support the weight of an upturned vehicle !!!
Hope this helps.
Kind regards........
Ken
