Since I have noticed there is a lot of knowledge about US jerrycans among
you, here is another question on this subject.
Today I bought an (dark) olive drab colored, US marked, watercan on a
fleamarket. The person I bought it from had three of such cans. Thanks to
the information published on the list recently I knew on what spot to look
for the date/year of production. The can I bought, the most "ugly" one of
the three, doesn't seem to have a date stamped to it. The others where 1956
and 1961! My questions are:
Were all (World War 2) water cans marked with a date?
Is a watercan appropiate on the back of a 1943 Ford GPW jeep?
The inside of the can I bought is colered sand/yellow. Inside I found three
exchange-tags (TM38-750)and two papers saying "can water unserviceable, rust
on inside".The TM38-750's povide more information like: UNIT OF
ORGANIZATION: CoD54th Engr Bn and FSN 7240 242 6153. Does any of you know
the unit it belonged to?
For your information. At the moment my GPW does carry a British 1943
jerrycan. Is there any information on the internet on jerrycans?
