[MV] To ten ton or not to ten-ton, that is the question.

If you want a ten-ton so you can say you've got the biggest MV in your area,
or you'd like to display a progression of 2 1/2, 5 and 10 tons...go for it.
If you actually want a tractor to use in any sort of a "normal" manner, this
ain't it. It is over-width and ssllloooowww. At 30-35MPH the V-8 300
Cummins sounds like a bunch of angry hornets, and over that the nose starts
porpoising. Tires are hard to find and expensive. Transmission is not
synchronised. (although if double clutching is troublsome for you its no big
deal, unloaded the truck will pull off from a stop in ANY forward gear!)
Unlike a deuce or 5 ton, you can NEVER relax and ride, this truck has to be
DRIVEN constantly, very fatiguing on long trips. Fuel consumption leaves
something to be desired too. Upkeep is difficult, there is nothing
lightweight on the truck, and it is MUCH more complicated than a deuce or
five ton. By the way, the fifth wheel won't couple to 90 percent of the
trailers, it requires a way oversized kingpin.
On the plus side, you get a lot of looks and questions, and you're never
again short on "hoss-power". I've pulled my class 530C 6x6 pumper (about
18000 lbs) using a military towbar, and you never know its there.
Hope this helps,
David
