Hi Ken -

Right. The Air-O-Matic set-up is air-assisted, not hydraulic. My Brakes
Class installed one on our deuce-and-a-half. Took 4 students less than a
day; you should be able to do it in about 3 hours. 8-) As David pointed
out, the system isn't cheap. However, there are some serious advantages
to the air-assist set-up. The biggest advantage is safety. The torque
valve (that mounts in place of the drag link) senses any 'reverse inputs'
and immediately counters them. This means that a blown steering axle
tire won't put you in the ditch, or in the on-coming lane. Also, the effort is
_seriously_ reduced. Although the effort is reduced by ~ 70%, you still
retain positive road feel. There's no 'floating' or drifting. Also, if air
pressure is lost, the torque valve locks up solid, instantly reverting the
system to 100% manual.

Gotta tell ya, Ken, I'm sold on the system. We use the truck for long-haul
partsequipment/donations retrieval, as well as off-road 'testing'
(uh-huh, uh-huh), and the system works great on-road or off!
