Adding the winch is not all that difficult, especially if you have a hoist,
etc to pick the winch itself up with. This is not all that essential unless
the cable is on the drum, then it's almost essential. You'll need: The
winch, frame extensions (4 pieces), PTO, PTO shaft, lever, lever bracket,
linkages, lock plate for the floor board, data plate for the floor board, new
data plate for dash with operating instructions, (and to be absolutely
correct (original air in original tires type), new vehicle data plate with
the W/Winch and slightly different dimensions/weight, a heavy tow chain and a
block & tackle).
Are you going to add this to an M35 or M35A2? The PTO shafts are different
between the two models. Also, the headlights should be in the upper position
on winch equipped vehicles. In the early models the w/o winch trucks had the
headlights mounted low. To change this you remove the headlight pounting
panels, invert them, move them up to higher set of mounting holes and remount
them.
Use the same bumper, just invert it when you reinstall after mounting the
winch. There is a knockout in the drivers floor for the lever to come
through, and the lever bracket bolts into existing holes.
The winch equipped truck will weigh about 500 lbs more than w/o winch (exact
weights vary depending on which manual you use). I've got both, no
significant difference in driving/performance.
With all the right tools and pneumatic tools, this will take about 4 hours.
Before mounting the winch, check the brake band. A leaking seal will
saturate it with grease, making it not work right, and it is much easier to
repair in the floor than on the truck.
Hope this helps,
