As has been noted before these jeeps would be torn down into a pile of
parts and then completely overhauled and then put back together in
assembly-line fashion with no concern to matching numbers and MB or GPW
parts. It would be interesting to here if your jeep has a combination of
MB and GPW parts. Anyhow the book does not go into any further details
as to the specifics of the rebuilding program. I doubt that very many if
any jeeps would have been brought back to the US for rebuilding. There
were rebuilding programs in Europe and I am sure in the Pacific also.
More than likley your jeep was rebuilt while here in the States and then
sent overseas. Others on the list may be able to shed more light on this
as I am only guessing. But I would think that it would have been more
economical to rebuild vehicles that were already there than to tie up
valuable cargo space to bring back vehicles for rebuild.
