Re: [MV] M37 Wheel Cyl. repair or replace?

Dan,
Removing the wheel cylinder is routine, provided the brake line can
be disconnected and the bolts come out okay. I've repaired lots,
and I do mean lots, of M37 and other wheel cylinders. I bought the
three stone honing tool that gets chucked into my variable speed,
reversible, electric drill. I remove the innards and put the cylinder
casting in a vise. I use the type of brake fluid that is in the system
to wet the stones. An occasional dip into a can of fluid does it.
Be careful not to push or pull the spinning stones out of the cylinder.
They'll fly apart. If the cylinders are not pitted beyond repair, you
should wind up with a clean, cross scratched surface. Sometimes
I only have to replace the cups (the size is noted on them) and not
use a complete wheel cylinder rebuild kit. I only have to spend $2.
per cylinder this way. I've done many master cylinders this way, too.
Be sure to clean the passages in the honed cylinders. Remnants
of the honing will put you back to ground zero in no time.
