This is literally IIRC a gas can.. I have a rather bad picture here of a
stack of something very similar at a US Chemical Warfare filling
facility sometime after the war... possibly late 50's and I suspect that
they were either used for the fuel supply of the filling equipment or as
storage tanks for spraying mustard agent
