Many factors effect tire wear, road surface, inflation, make, driving
conditions, etc. 2 years ago my deuce had new rubber all around. This truck
is very well maintained, won 1st at MVPA convention. 2 tires on rear axles
are worn and need replacing, steering tires are beginning to cup, rest of
them look hardly worn. Truck has had about 1500 miles put on it. It gets
reasonable fuel mileage. The truck refered to that gets 2-3 MPG is ten ton
6x6 M123A1C powered by V-8 Cummins about twice the size of the deuces LDT,
and this mileage is right in line with spec. The other low fuel mileage truck
is M328 bridge truck on M139 chassis powered by 6602 Continental, a noted gas
hog motor. GVW approx 30000 lbs, manual calls for about something like 6 MPG
from memory.
Never the less, I have several heavy military trucks, all maintained to a
level meeting or exceeding the governments, with me pulling most of the
wrenches, and fuel is way toward the bottom of the annual expense, in spite
of going, with all the trucks under their own power,to 18-24 events annually.
When something breaks, and eventually something will, very little on these
vehicles is light or inexpensive.
