[MV] M37 plug wire question

List,
I'm putting on a set of stainless plug wires, not exact original, but
waterproof shielded military nonetheless. They came with one end with green
paint on the brass fitting, one end plain. The painted end also has the
metal nomenclature stamps. Which end goes to the plug, and which to the
distributor? Or does it matter?
