[MV] CUCV brake fluid

List Members:
I have an M1008 CUCV, which had been in service by a local government
after release from the military. The master cylinder fill cap
specifies DOT 5 (silicone) fluid. However, I don't know whether the
previous owner continued the military's use of silicone fluid or
replaced it with DOT 3. I don't want to mess things up if I add the
wrong fluid. Question - is there a simple smell, taste, feel, or
"litmus" test to verify what fluid is in the system, short of a chemical
analysis?
