Then buy a CCKW with a hull, or DUKW, as we call them here 8-) They are
much more reliable and float better than recent unfortunate experiences
would have you believe, and that might even have driven the price down.

Buy a DUKW on hull condition alone, everything else is replaceable. On a
CCKW I'd be looking for a complete truck with a good bed on it. The
ex-Norway ones tend to be particularly good. Had the chance to buy a
short wheelbase hard cab with winch and civilian instruments, but didn't
have the money 8-(
