Stu......... I would guess (from this distance) that:-
1. It's the belts. Did you check 'em out against each other (I know they are
supposed to be matched) before you put them on? I've seen so-called "matched"
belts differ by 1/2" from each other.
2. Overtightening the belts by levering against the side of the generator can
make the belts "sing".
3. Check the pulleys involved (generator, crank and w/pump) to make sure none
are excessively "glazed"
As a quick check.... try re-installing the OLD belts. If the noise goes, it's
the new belts.... if it remains, it could be the bearings in the "new"
generator.
