In the late 70's, the Government wanted a vehicle to replace/take the place
of several family vehicles. All of the family of M151's, All of the family
of CUCV's, all of the family of Dodge 880's, M37-maybe because these were
pretty well phased out by this time. It had to have a payload of 5000
pounds, be able to pull 5000 pounds and have a "commercially available"
diesel engine. More criteria also but these were the basics. Julian
