My manuals on the MB/GPW say that the steering gear should be lubed with
80-90 weight gear oil, not grease. But it may work fine. I suspect that a
previous owner got tired of the gear oil leaking out past worn seals/bushings
and screwed a grease fitting into the filler hole and pumped grease in to
provide lube but not leak out.
