I have now fitted the second NOS temp. sender to my 151 A1 and the system
still does not work.
Each sender, although identically machined, were purchased from parts
dealers in the UK and the US respectively. NOTE: I am not out to
criticise any dealers here - I am merely (?) totally bemused.
All tests have been performed exhaustively: bared metal on rear of dash
panel and dash proper to ensure good earths. Ditto where the gauge bracket
contacts the dash panel. I have replaced wire number 33. I have even
fitted a new engine earth strap. There are exactly 24 volts at the feeder
(no. 27) wire and the same again at the end of wire 33
I have used 4 different gauges, 3 of which are brand new in the box.
When I run the resistance test on the sender, I set the meter to Rx1, as it
says in the manual. When I run the engine, I get about 1mm of needle
movement (meter zeroed every time). I then accpted that the second sender
is shot and removed it and bench tested it by attaching it to the meter and
gently warming it with a blowtorch, whereupon, the resistance reading
eventually fell to 200 ohms. Is it possible that 2 senders could be bad,
right off the shelf?
Any help most appreciated.
